Resilient Homes Task Force
The Resilient Homes Task Force (RHTF) is a collaborative initiative between the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) and the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA). The Task Force brings together experts to develop evidence-based solutions aimed at improving the resilience of new homes, renovations, and homeowner maintenance practices. Our goal is to support the residential construction industry and inform Canadians about cost-effective ways to reduce the risk of damage from extreme weather and catastrophic events.
The Task Force has developed tiered residential construction guidelines that allow for incremental adoption of resilience practices by the Canadian home building, renovation, and insurance industries. These materials were developed with the input and direction of the RHTF, and with the guidance of the RHTF Pilot Working Group (PWG).
The goals of tiered resilience measures include education of the building and insurance industries, risk reduction, and, constructability.
This is a first iteration of these guidelines. The guidelines will be updated periodically based on user feedback and changing knowledge and research in the field of disaster resilience for Part 9 buildings in Canada.
