Objective
To study seismic risk in the Montreal Urban Community. ICLR, the city of Montreal, the government of Quebec, the government of Canada, and others have been approached to fund a comprehensive engineering analysis of earthquake risks. This work would significantly enhance insurers understanding of current seismic risks in the city

Update
Commitments have been received from the Montreal Urban Community and Gaz Métropolitain. Negotiations are being completed with Hydro-Québec and Bell. As soon as discussions are finalized with the last two participants, the proposal to NSERC will be submitted. Meanwhile, three students have started work on the project. A masters student is working on a dynamic analysis of the buidling housing the Sécurité civile of the Montreal Urban Community. A Post-Doc student funded at McGill through a grant from the Geological Survey of Canada is going to be doing research on the micro-zonation of Montreal. This student will be doing field studies with equipement borrowed from the GSC, as well as perform numerical simulations for local amplifications. A new Ph.D. student will assist in field studies and numerical analyses and will also link with the City of Montreal and consulting firms to develop a digital data base on soil boring data across the island of Montreal. Once the project is fully funded, more students will be added to perform research on specific lifelines in collaboration with the partners.
